In a historic first, the parliament of Manitoba passed into Law a bill recognizing the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence anniversary every October 1st annually. This bill, a testament to the burgeoning robust bilateral relations between both countries, albeit at the provincial level, was sponsored by a Nigerian Canadian, the Honourable Deputy Premier, Minister for Health, Seniors, and Long-term Care, Uzoma Asagwara. This significant achievement underscores the impact of the Nigerian diaspora in Canada.
