The real toll of the coronavirus
It is not just in the statistics or numbers
Of those who got infected or died
Or of industries that collapsed
But that it has upended everything
With its bold egalitarian affront
Class and social divides
Visiting its iniquity on the high and mighty
As well as on the low and downtrodden
It has altered our worldview
In unimaginable ways
Including our notion of American hegemony
The fallacy of the supremacy of Western medicine
And exposed the shenanigans of China
And unearthed the potency of African organic formulations
